NSWFB Pager scanning
NSWFB Pager scanning
I've been decoding for a short time messages on the Link freq of 149.8375.
From what i can understand these look to be duty officers which receive slow updates and informational messages well after a incident.
I also have another freq listed but i'm unable to get any kind of nswfb messages(148.785)
Does anyone know the freq used to send out the Tone Onlys to nswfb pagers, and other messages that are more as a incident happens(e.g duty commanders pagers)
From what i saw last time i played with this most the messages started with the time in a format such as '13 40 27' and end with 'newcomms' or something like.
At this time i'm unable to find the freq that carries these messages,
Can anyone help me out ??
Cheers

Re: NSWFB Pager scanning
I have 148.990 for tone only pagers for the country areas, I'm not sure if its the same across NSW or not.
Hope this helps a bit

Thanks,
I'll just have to leave the scanner on a few channels for a few days to see what i get.

Re: NSWFB Pager scanning
Only a small amount of Incident Information is sent via the Brigades Link Pagers these days, mainly brief updates as most of the critical information is sent to Officers Mobile Phones via a Mobile Phone Paging System.
You are not going to like this, but the Brigade in the last couple of years has slowly been moving to a Mobile Phone Paging System, to provide better security of information passing.

148.990 is not a legit frequency. It is either 148.9875 or 149.000. You're probably using an older scanner that does not do 12.5KHz steps.Farsouthscanner wrote:I have 148.990 for tone only pagers for the country areas, I'm not sure if its the same across NSW or not.

Bummer...
Just what i wasn't hoping for
The only messages I'm getting at the moment are hours old which isn't that great.

The story is, in time the only pagers that may stay in the NSWFB's will be the Retained Station Pagers, as the Retained Firefighters were the first to switch to the Mobile Phone Paging System about 3 years ago, as a replacement turn-out system to the old House Turn-out Bells.astro_boy wrote:Bummer...

Retained Stations are required to have TWO (2) Forms of Fire Call Notification, so with the Old House Bells no longer, the Mobile Phone Paging System was introduced and found to be suitable for paging Brigade Officers as well.
My own Duty and Zone Commander no longer carry their Alpha Pagers any more, only their mobile phones.

I didn't think it looked right but didn't give it much more thought. I was going off a Radioshack 2096 sitting beside me so that expalins it.Mike Alpha wrote:148.990 is not a legit frequency. Re: NSWFB Pager scanning
First time trying this type of thing, using a Uniden 92XLT and a soundcard.
I just stored the above frequencies and i'm scanning them.
I'm using PDW V1.110, the needle in the top right corner moves when there is activity.
Although all my messages arent normal english
i.e. 0107350 19:01:29 25/12/2008 3 POCSAG 512 rR)i‰FjdHu„RJ„–rR9
Any suggestions on what im doing wrong?

Nothing is going wrong. Its decoding fine, just that you are monitoring encrypted pagers. Yes, even pagers these days are encrypted.
