New Callsign Management and Allocation

Post by JAFO » Thu May 09, 2019 11:54 am

Has anyone had any dealings with obtaining a Amateur Radio License since the start of the 2019?

As I have had no AR Mobile Radio Setup for over 12 months, I forgot to renew my Amateur Radio License last November and payed my account in February, only to find out last month my License was cancelled as my renewal payment was received after 3 month, ACMA kept my Money but did not reactivated my Callsign :-(

Now have to go through the Australian Marine Collage to see if I can get my Original Callsign back, but it doesn't say anywhere to whom the License Payment is made too, ACMA or the Marine Collage . . . More hoop jumping to come I think :-(

Yeah good luck Grant, plenty of turmoil going on at the moment.
I'm in the middle of studying for advanced call and im delaying it somewhat as there's not much going on in AMC land, i'm guessing that there still in a transition phase.
There is the VE exams (US licences) going on around the place and plenty are doing it that way then applying for the Australian licence equivalent but i heard at out club meeting last night that the ACMA has had a dummy spit and will be shortly closing that avenue.
If its a F call your after, the Canberra club are running a course in the next couple of weeks. get in touch via the website or Facebook page. The applications were supposedly closing last night but they may let you in if your interested.
Cheers

I'll start chasing this up again on Monday.

Will be a little pissed if I've lost my old Callsign after 10+ years.

Was about to trying to workout how to get a radio on my bike to see how it works out on it,

Give the ACMA a ring and see how you go there first. You might have some luck.
I've had mixed dealing with them in the past you might get lucky.

Wow, I'm surprised - I thought there were provisions for previous callsign holders to get their callsign back...

Unless it was allocated to someone else and they have held it for a period of time, that is.

It took near 6 months for the new callsign administrator to get their process orginised and ACMA to verify my details.

In the meantime, someone requested my old callsign, An email was sent out but I think it must had gone into my junk mail, and as no reply was recieved in due time, callsign was re-issued.

Found out about 2 months later when I chased the matter up again. Probably more my fault, used a secondary email and was flat out with work.

Any way . . . after 2 years, finally have another 4WD with Scanning and radio gear in again.

Must say though, very quiet on the local ham bands though.
