Wollondilly PMR Down

Post by citabria » Thu Sep 04, 2008 6:38 pm

Just listening to RFS GRN 191 tonight (TG 28240) - Apparently their PMR network is down so its over to GRN. I did catch a message saying that radios had been cloned incorrectly and they all ended up with the same RID so they are having to fix things manually (sounds a bit like a competency issue to me - cloning is pretty simple)

Does anyone know why the PMR is down?

Cheers,
Matt

Now why doesn't it surprise me that the radios were cloned incorrectly with the same RID! That would cause no end of problems!

There PMR network is not "down" per say. It is receiving interference from another source and the ACMA has been called in to find the problem.

They did manage to get at least 1 radio per brigade GRN Enabled.

It did strike me as strange though, just from listening in on GRN was that FCO4 (Community Safety) and more so FCO5 (L&D) seemed to be fixing the problem??? I did hear their FCO2 (Operations Officer) call on but he didn’t seem to be the one fixing the issue?

Very odd

I also heard they had up to 5 radios with the same RID and that half of their radios had been deregisted from the GRN not just disabled!

They are only derigistered at the request of the RFS District / Team / Zone.

Usually its because the DTZ don't want to pay the fees.

There has been some media today on the Wollondilly RFS radio problems.

http://wollondilly.yourguide.com.au/new ... 79732.aspx

Some of the RFS members in that newspaper article contacted Ray Hadley about their concerns and Ray interviewed RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons on air today.

I recorded it here - http://members.optusnet.com.au/~sydtrun ... _probs.mp3

It seems that some aren't as technically aware of the issues as the Commissioner.
