You have to remember that a couple of decades ago every agency and their dog had access to VKG, from SES to VRA, maritime, fisheries, even RSPCA

It's a whole new digital age and nobody wants to share their toys any more.

With most VRA Squads lossing access to local VKG channels, many VRA Squads have complained about communication issues between VKG and individual VRA Squads seeking updates on incident locations etc, there has been talk around establishing a central VRA Call Centre that would act as go between between VKG and responding VRA Resources.

As you could imagine the VRA being a non-Government orginisation, staffing, logistics and funding of such a proposal is a little issue
Easy solution, fold the VRA's current structure and put everyone on the same radio system with the SES, RFS etc. If WA can do it, so can everybody else...

In most part, this has already happened in NSW with the thaseing in of the NSW Government Radio Network (GRN) over the past 20 odd years. Since its creation in the Blue Mountains in 1993, it has been NSW Government Policy that as the Government Radio Network Footprint expended, which if you go by their Website now covers 1/3rd of the State, all Government Departments were to migrate from their own Radio Systems onto the GRN as it became available and matched their own radio network coverage, with majority of Ambulance, FRNSW, SES and RFS Comm's within it's footprint now having been moved from their own orginisation's PMR Systems onto the GRN as it has expended and became available.

the issue for the VRA and other Non Government Organisation (NGO's) with involvement in Public Safety & Emergency Response Responsibilities like the NSW (Volunteer) Marine Rescue, St John Ambulance NSW and other less known emergency response services, they are not Government Departments thus are not entitled to access to the GRN.

So the WA Solution . . . not so easy.

Apart from NSW Marine Rescue, majority of theses NGO's receive very little to NO Government Funding at all, in fact majority of the NSW Government Funding that the VRA Receives, majority goes towards Insurance Cover for the 70 odd VRA Squads across the state.

Funding for Radio Communication's Infrastructure used by these organisations usually has to be raised through their own funds Raising Activities within their local communities, and there lays the problem . . . spend $5000 on Radio Equipment or $5000 on Rescue Equipment? Rescue Equipment usually is the higher priority.

The VRA does have a Central Call Center for contact with the various VKG Centers. VRA State Management has been looking into some kind of Dispatch System for its Squads & Members, but as it mill most probably be funded by the member squads themselves, it needs to be cost effective and fordable.

And yes there are plans a-foot for a New Radio Network

Just heard Bega VRA for the first time in years.
I am getting them on 81.125 which seems to be an input channel as I am only getting one side of the conversation.
