With the storm season upon us I have been hearing the SES on the radio more frequently. Since earlier this year I've noticed more and more SES unit have gone back to a 'standard' set of callsigns, and after listening tonight (and a bit of Googling) it appears the standard callsigns are once again universally used. The callsigns appear similar to those used by the SES back in the 90's and earlier.
From what I can gather so far:
'Unit' 1x - Command
'Unit' 15 - After hours duty officer (from: http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/content/docum ... 1300/73846)
'Unit' 3x - 'Heavy' response vehicle
'Unit' 4x - Ancillary vehicles (?)
'Unit' 5x - 'Light' response vehicle
The numbers are sequential, but start high and get lower, so - 'Unit' 39, then 'Unit' 38, etc
Hoping somebody can provide a far more comprehensive list.
NSW SES Callsigns
Re: NSW SES Callsigns
Interesting. The second number may be more of a descriptor that the first? I've been trying to recall the old call signs because they do seem so similar, but can't find any list online. So from my recollections, and a look though some images online I've come up with the following:
(1x - Command)
15 - After hours durty officer Info here
17 - Officer ISR17
18 - Officer SNR18
19 - Controller HUR19
(3x - 'Heavy' response vehicles)
36 - Heavy rescue
37 - Heavy rescue
38 - Heavy storm response
39 - Heavy storm response BHS39
(4x - Ancillary)
41 - USAR Canine unit SWR41
44 - Ancillary vehicle WPW44
(5x - 'Light' response vehicles)
56 - Light storm response WPW56
57 - Light storm response BGV57
However, there are also plenty of callsigns which appear to go against those above, especially in the 3x category, and as pointed out by Longreach above, also in the 5x.
Garry, can you provide any information? Or even johnboy (if he is still around)? From memory he was up on all things SES.

The one i spotted recently is SHR55 which is a Hiace from memory, seen a couple of other 55's at the body builder they were using.

Thanks Garry, I knew somebody here would know what was going on. I'll keep an eye out for it.
