SLSAA Helmets.

Post by brianWE » Sun Nov 23, 2008 2:13 pm

Heard a radio discussion, a couple of years back.
About helmets being purchased for boat crews.
Helmets contained bone-conduction microphones and audio that would take submersion to a few metres.
Made, I think, in NZ and based on systems issued to USMC troops.

Supposedly, the mic contacted the wearer's skull and did not pick up motor, wind and surf noise.

Were they, in fact, issued?
If so, how effective did they prove to be?

Have, often, thought a similar system might improve comms for HWP cycle riders. Their transmissions can be hard to hear properly...especially when mobile.

I hadn't heard of these but they seem like a good idea. The price might be an issue but I think it would be worth it.

Yes. Expensive.
But, if they help save lives......

Did hear the USMC helmet these were based on costs something like five times as much.

Hate to be paying for the USMC ones. As you said though if it saves lives it would be worth it.
