Surf Life Saving

Post by pks » Sat Nov 01, 2008 10:40 am

A partial list of SLS radio profile was posted on ScanNSW before it went down.
Just wondering if anyone has the complete list? There's ch 1,2,3,4,5,9,18,25,30,74,75,82.
Everything else in between is missing. Or is that how their radios are programmed?

Thanks.

RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
All Radio communications and usage is as outlined in the Radio Operators Certificate. This is
however subject to changes relative to the Australian Communications Authority.
These guidelines are for best practice based on the state call sign strategy and Radio Operators
Certificate training package.
If you are unsure what to say at any time, revert to plain English and help will get to you.
Policy
• Radios must be turned on at all times whilst on patrol.
• If a radio is not working satisfactorily or there is damage to the set or aerial, it must be
reported to the Patrol Captain, Club Captain or Club radio officer for replacement and/or
repair.
• A radio check should be undertaken at the commencement of each patrol.
• Radios are for operational information only
• Do not use personal names unless absolutely necessary
• Difficult text must be spelt using the Phonetic alphabet using the pro words ‘I SPELL’
• All efforts should be made to minimise radio traffic with the use of alternative means of
communication such as telephones, signal flags, air horns and whistles.
• Never refer to anyone as dead. Always refer to them as "The Casualty" – you never know
who can hear the channel

SurfCom
All radio bases in each Branch will now be called Surfcom in line with all other states’
radio communication standards. To differentiate between the bases the location can be
added after Surfcom. E.g. Surfcom Warringah or Surfcom Sydney.

SurfCom is housed at Coastguard Solander in Kurnell and is located at Prince Charles Parade (Corner of Ward Street), Kurnell.

RWC - Jetskis
RWC units are now to hold the call sign “Support” (example – Support 1). Allocated by the Branch and numbered geographically North – South (example Support 1 – Support 3 determined by coverage North – South)
