Code 29??

Post by Mike Alpha » Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:56 pm

Anyone know what an Ambo Code 29 is?

Heard an ambo officer say they had a Code 29 the other day. She said "this is a Code 29, query GBH"

Code 17 is overdose, so what would a Code 29 be? A drink spiking maybe?

GHB = Gamma Hydroxy Butyl - the date rape drug.

Id say drink spiking is exactly what code 29 is!

Which may mean then that the "GBH" is "gross bodily harm"

GBH = Grevious Bodily Harm
GHB = AKA Date Rape Drug

You learn a thing of two working in hospitals

Hmmm, you've got me thinking now. I'm sure it was drug related because I could hear the female patient groaning in the background. The fact the ambo said "query" must mean she was querying the type of drug involved, so GHB would be what I heard. Grievous Bodily Harm would have been obvious.

Security/Police Required at hospital could still be the answer.

yep you'd be correct there Mike, depending on what type of other drugs if any the patient may have taken they could have reacted badly hence the agression.

when i was at st vincents hospital we were always of a friday and saturday night sitting out in the ambo bay waiting for jobs to come in where we were required to assist restraining the patient for medical staff to treat them...

As centralcoastscanman suggests maybe it is both .... drug affected patient with Security required
For instance Ambos won't go near "Ice" (crystal methamphetamine hydrochloride) patients unless there is a lot of physical force available (cops or security) to restrain them.

I can guarantee most ambo's(there are some exceptions) will not treat patients that are violent until Police arrive, and then when they are unloading at the hospital its handed over to hospital security to deal with. Most police are glad to hand patients like that over to hospital then the poor security get stuck with the patient.

There are other instances where security would be required is if a patient is having a seizure and they need light restraint so they don't fall off the bed and do some more serious damage.

I really wish someone would do a tv show that shows the type of work hospital security officers get stuck dealing with as the general public would get a rude wake up call, sometimes our job is more dangerous than Police(not always)
