Ambo Cycle digital voice?

Post by Mike Alpha » Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:23 pm

I've been noticing City Ambo cycle 1 and 3 have a digital sound to their voice transmissions. It's very distinct and at times so robotic to be unintelligible.

Here's a sample recording I made with the dispatcher reply for comparison. The recording is a mp3 and the digital sound is exactly as I hear it, not a product of the recording.

Waddaya think?? Anyone know why this is? Could it be a WiFi or Bluetooth link from their helmet to the radio??

its entirely possible as there are some pretty funky looking gadgets out there that provide a wireless link back to a radio, but most of what i've seen is on us tv shows and from suppliers in the usa.

is it also possible that the cycle's might be running on a digital talkgroup patched into the analogue giving it the distinctive sound ?

Is Trunker showing that all digital units are coming from the same RID? If so it could be a P25 patch from somewhere (P25 GRN perhaps)

I thought it might be a P25 TG patch as well, but I had the 996 tracking the GPT P25 site at the time and nothing came up.

I must be deaf? I'm not sure what you're talking about?

Between 0.9 and 1.2 seconds there is a distortion... sounds exactly the same as the distortion at 6.4 to 6.9 seconds & 9.1 to 9.6 seconds.

However as previously mentioned - Unitrunker will not lie.

Could just be the Motorcycle Helmet Interface system too.

I use to use a Motorcycle Helmet Interface system a few years ago, and my wife said when ever I used it to speak on the Mobile phone it sounded like I was talking underwater.

A lot of bluetooth headsets use VSELP or CVSD voice coding - which have both been used by motorola for digital voice products over the years so its entirely possible its a headset or similar.

Just listening to Cycle 1 with the digital voice and watching his RID on Mtrunker. Looks like it's his individual RID, no indication it is a patch of any sort.
