Short intro as I'm new to these forums - Hi, I'm Pete from the mountains. Just got into scanning a few months back. I feel I've educated myself a bit about radio, configuring GRN all on my own, and successfully intercepting quite a number of radio users. A computer tech background probably helped. I mainly scan "Those Blasted Choppers"TM, Firies, Ambo & Air. I run just a 396T so far.
I intercepted an ambulance call the other week in Wallacia that saw a response from both Rescue 24/Careflight HIRT & Rescue 23. Some kind of landing site was setup by Rescue 24 and as 23 arrived they advised to change to a simplex as the GRN reception was shocking on the ground. The simplex was identified as 'heli chan 15'.
Any suggestions on what bands I should be scanning? It did not seem to be GRN or any regular controlled airspace freqs.

Hy Grant,
I have also heard this Simplex Channel Refered as: Ch.20 Helicopter simplex.
Pete,
You will also hear the Helicopter Crews using this Channel when the Parramedic & Doctor have been deployed and separated at an incident scene from the Flight Crew and you sometimes here Car Crews talking to the Medical Crew while the helicopter is on approach to an incident scene.
Also at their Bankstown Airport HeliBase, the channel is used by the Crews between the Crew's Office/Quarters and the Flight-line as well.

Re: Simplex
Neat! Thanks for the info!
I'll let you know how successful I am with the usual weekend rescues that happen in the mountains.

Re: Simplex
I have actually heard things on Ch 15 a number of times now.
Today I heard the mentioning of even more channels that I don't know. Did not appear to be Ch 15 or I should of received it.
"Helicopter Simplex 24" and "Simplex 69"
Any ideas?
