ASNSW and Hatzollah

Post by Mike Alpha » Sun Sep 04, 2016 1:00 am

There was a multiple near-drowning incident at Bondi Beach last week and a news article suggested that ASNSW responded Hatzollah (Jewish ambulance service) to the incident.

Is this possible over the GRN, or was it just a phone call made?

Both services are on the GRN so there's no reason it wouldn't be possible, however I assume it's not just a case of calling out a crew, surely CAD jobs have to be created etc.? (If Hatzolah even have CAD?)

Hatzolah are part of the CFR program so it would work the same as other CFR callouts.

From ASNSW Website;

There are two models of NSW Ambulance volunteers:

Volunteers Ambulance Officers are accredited, trained and administered under the direct jurisdiction of NSW Ambulance. Volunteers may be attached to a station, a hospital or operate through an established volunteer station with assistance from neighbouring stations. Volunteers ambulance officers respond in an ambulance vehicles and can transport patients.

Community First Responders are accredited and operate under NSW Ambulance governance and training. The majority of volunteers respond under a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the State Emergency Service, the Rural Fire Service, or the NSW Fire Brigades. Community first responders do not operate from a NSW Ambulance or health facility, do not have a ambulance vehicle and do not transport patients.

CFR's are activated by ASNSW control by contacting their respective agency they belong to, eg. FRNSW Comms (For FRNSW and RFS resources), SES Comms, or Hatzolah directly. They have specific response areas they are responded in only.

In the vast majority of cases, they don't communicate directly on ASNSW operations channels but pass messages via their comms centre (Hatzolah usually by telephone.)
Exception is a couple of FRNSW and RFS units which have GRN radios and call up on amb ops channels with callsign CFR39, Branxton CFR, etc.
