Atrocious Ambo East audio.

This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, the operator audio on Sydney Ambo East is so compressed and distorted I'm surprised no one has done anything about it. The audio seems to be heavily compressed and the AGC wound up all the way. I'm continually hearing ambos asking for something to be repeated because of the distortion and clipping.

You can hear it in the example below.

AMBO EAST AUDIO CLIP

You can also see it in this waveform of the above clip. The first 2 seconds of background din is boosted to nearly 100% before the operator utters a word. Then there's a lot of clipping on the plosive sounds.

Call me pedantic, but I am! :)

This is still an issue with asnsw radios. Dispatchers are really loud and crews are quiet. The programming isn’t the best. We’ve asked for this to be addressed however nothing has yet which is annoying because we change the volume to hear crews and down for dispatch before we blow the mics.

Sigh

Have any of the East cars had their radio swap out yet to Tait TM9400 yet? Wonder if that is causing an issue.

I've noticed that too. The dispatcher end is quite good now with clear 100% modulation. But I think the crews have too many variables that can affect their audio quality. I've seen them trying to give reports while kneeling over a patient near heavy traffic. Or giving a Code 3 under lights and sirens while juggling paperwork.

I don't know what the fix is but it's something that has to be addressed.
