Interesting to note i heard a single (what sounded like) MDC-1200 tone at the end of one of the transmissions recently from a unit on the ground using this frequency

Hi Astro,
Its a Tait proprietary thing. I'm not sure what it's called.
Very common to hear in the PMR areas.

Yep, I'm still hearing that sound over the GRN talkgroups too, but, as Matt says, it only seems to be on the traffic patched-in from the PMR areas.

To be honest I was surprised that there's any analog channels still around (I bet they've got no shortage of spare portables)!

Andrew and Astro,
Crookwell, Boorowa, Young, Harden, Jindabyne, Perisher and Bombala stations in the south east still operate on PMR. The whole of the Wagga, Riverina and Murray (SW NSW) are completely (Bar West Wyalong) on PMR.

The Ident is related to the car number, for instance Harden has for instance Harden (5)255. The portable ID's come up as 55255 and 65255 for that car. The GRN ID for those portables are completely unrelated.

Cheers
