FRNSW comms in Tamworth

Just wondering if FRNSW in Tamworth and the northwest will be migrating to GRN. It seems they are still using PMR at the moment, despite the area being covered by GRN.
Any ideas on what is happening?

The town is covered from one GRN base at Bald Hill, so the whole area is NOT covered by GRN. Tamworth use PMR bases at Bald Hill, Moonbi, Mt Soma & Mt Baldwin- all depending on where they are. So no they are staying on PMR for the foreseeable future...

Thanks Richard. That makes sense. I was particularly curious as the ambos seemed to have moved over. The only traffic the P25 site on Bald Hill is carrying is ambulance, sheriffs and some RFS.

Well at least they have done the study for expanding the network to the north and north west ... some 70+ sites, maybe more.

Just need to find some money!

Or speed things up... already funding of the network is being put on a commercial footing. It probably hasn't been mentioned here before but funding of at least the emergency services users is being passed on through to the insurance industry. Radio tariffs have been TRIPLED... In other words we all will be paying for it through our house & contents insurance. Now doesn't that sound like it is being put in to shape for future sale? So if it does happen under a Liberal government just remember that this process started under the ALP.

They definitely have their PMR network & I'm not aware of the Ambos having any plans to change anything up in the New England. But remember that most agencies will keep at least some form of PMR as a "Disaster Recovery" back-up to use when the GRN is down (link failures, maintenance etc). A major town like Tamworth would be one where a back-up PMR base would be a must.
