It was something that the local Emergency Management Committee sought some years back but it has taken a while to get both sides of the border's radios & consoles upgraded. It is intended to be used for major incidents where NSW get responded in to ACT & vice versa. It could have been done using the ESOs but the locals wanted something more permanent so that users can become more confident using it.

I assume the comms centre consoles either don't display the calling unit's GRN/MDC RID or they're not tagged (or the operator simply doesn't use the feature if it's there)?
I would think it would be handy for the operators... might save all those "Last appliance calling re-identify..." calls?

They definitely are displayed as an Alias or Callsign. It is more a case of the operators not choosing to depend on this info (or reading it).
