Nothing to report really

Post by JAFO » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:26 pm

Nothing to report really, although had the chance to ride in one of the new Scania Pumps for the past 3 weeks, and some may be interested to know that these new pumps in the future will come equipped with the Motorola ASTRO XTL 5000 for the GRN as well as a Motorola ASTRO XTL 2500 Digital Mobile Radio as a in-cabin Fire Ground Radio.

It is fitted with Street GPS Navigation and these new Pumps will also come pre-wired with antenna + coax, power cable etc, to take GPS/Mobile Data Terminals, Satellite Phone and CB Radio equipment when they come from the manufacturer.

Nice truck I must say.

A few months back the ATV vehicles where running around the perimeter road at the Richmond RAAF Base. Didn’t have my camera with me (note to self, “always carry camera stupid, it doesn’t weigh much”) Must have been some sort of training. It looked like something out of the Thunderbirds! Aplogies to any one under 25 who doesn’t know what the thunderbirds is

Regards

Kev

Nice radios, are they going to update your portables to xts5000 or leave them as xts3k ?

The XTS3Ks are due to be replaced as they cannot operate on the P25 GRN. There are XTS5Ks ready to be rolled out with the new P25 profile in coming months & these will replace the "yellow aerialed" XTS3Ks. No decision made on the remaining 2/3rds of XTS3Ks. Firies have expressed a strong preference for a much smaller incident ground handheld & time will tell what radio is purchased.

The XTL2500s serve a wider use than just incident ground use. They are also a secondary PMR radio, and interop radio (such as QFRS PMR along the border area). That allows the XTL5000 to have a standard profile throughout the state- the NSWFB avoids having special profiles except where it can't be avoided.

Cheers,

Richard
