Post by cartman » Sat Oct 22, 2011 7:21 pm

Found this in the "NSW Police News" for October 2011 regarding the request for part of the 700Mhz band to be reserved for police australia wide

yep it would be for uplink services ( eg Polair beaming footage back to a command post ) or for MDT Services...

I've not fired up the links you have provided but i remember reading something about this a while ago in some it website on the net...

Polair currently uses a much higher frequency for video uplinks / downlinks
I think the thrust of that signed letter is that they want their own segment of the band that the analogue TV is vacating ... australian wide ... for all sorts of things - voice, data, video

Data, mainly.

There's been a ton of media reporting on the past about it on the various tech news sites. The gist was that there's no way state governments can ever compete with the dollars that the commercial operators are going to offer for that spectrum, and therefore (and rightfully so) they shouldn't be expected to have to engage in the sort of bidding wars the telcos will be getting into.

Wonder if the new "Telco Authority" will keep campaigning for access to 700MHz spectrum for police etc?
