Police to take on Railway Security Role - Attempt 2

Post by cartman » Mon Sep 05, 2011 12:33 am

Having failed to get an extra 750 police to patrol rail under Labour, it looks like it may happen under the Liberals with the brief expanded to include all public transport.

They mentioned in the paper that their radios were old & bulky & had a dated radio system.
Didn't they just go digital???
I love were the media gets their info from!

There is also an expectation this will allow significant budget savings. Out of a pool of more than 600 RailCorp employees classified as transit officers, at least 150 are desk-bound and not on the network.
RailCorp insists the 150-odd staff who do not work on the network perform key functions such as intelligence gathering, but transit officers on the ground remain sceptical about the value of a lot of the back-office work.
Lol, maybe the reporter should also ask every government agency the ratio of frontline staff to administration or back office work.

Sounds like a case of a 'back to the future'...and this would be part 2 (or maybe part 3)!

Wait a minute,

I recall it was a report from a security consultancy Firm that recommended that all transport Security Services should be merged into one Service and should come under the command of a Senior Police Commander, not that it was going to happen.

It reads they have 3x options.
1. Go to the police academy & become a officer
2. Become a revenue protection officer
3. Take a redundancy!
I though I heard that some of them are ex-police officers, can they be reinstated?
The other thing you hear is some security guards did try to get into the force but didn't make it.

if they meet the physical/academic/professional suitability requirements they can re-apply, as at the moment the cops have a program running for officers who have left the job to get back into it...

Anyone know who the "Zero" prefix callsigns belong to on the rail transit TG 11107 (SEC 4)?

I'm hearing "Zero One", "Zero Three" and I think I heard a "Zero One Zero" as well.

Was at the soccer at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday evening (Western Sydney Wanderers vs Perth Glory) and noted a reasonable sized police presence including 'PORS Zulu" (Black Mercedes Van) doing laps around the Parramatta CBD after the game, as well as PTC 515 (Caged Van) in the vicinity of Parramatta Station.
