Water Police do use 27mhz and marine VHF channels sometimes, usually to communicate with boaties. They have their own digital encrypted channel for use in the Sydney area. The helicopters may could be communicating with the police launch on VHF marine or on a UHF analogue liaison channel.

Water Police seem to be still using Ch 118 468.2875 NAC 293 (Tx SW Pylon Sydney Harbour Bridge) as of today but obviously still encrypted.
With that body in the water off Vaucluse report this morning i noticed that there was a fair bit of activity on this frequency, then it went quiet again
For a long time they were on Ch 51 but appear to have relocated to 468.2875 maybe 3-4 years ago.

During the week I heard water police call up on Maritime TG 10951 asking Access for a radio check. Once acknowledged, water police asked for a radio check on their GRN radio. There was a bit of an issue with the timing of replies, but at the end water police said they copied Access 100% and vice versa.

Sorry, no RID noted.
