Members of the public are being reminded that a national counter-terrorism exercise will commence in Sydney tomorrow (Sunday 12 June) and conclude on Monday (13 June).

Motorists and pedestrians will see increased police and emergency service activity in and around Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday afternoon. Do not be alarmed – this is an exercise only.

The exercise gives police and emergency service organisations the opportunity to test their preparedness for a number of scenarios and reassure the community about our ability to respond to this and other types of incidents.

Exercise “Black Angus” will be conducted at Sydney Olympic Park. A fence is being erected around the area so members of the public do not inadvertently go into where the exercise is being held.

Traffic conditions on Olympic Boulevard, Dawn Frazer Avenue and Edwin Flack Avenue will be changed and closures will be in place until 3pm on Monday.

The exercise is jointly sponsored by the Commonwealth and State Governments and will test both state and national capabilities to respond to a terrorist incident.

The exercise is part of a series of counter-terrorism activities held regularly in each of the states and territories.

Further to the ct exercise happening Sunday at Homebush ... they seem to have been trawling all the agencies trying to get 2000 volunteers to turn up for at least 12hrs on a holiday weekend (no pay only meals provided) .... it even appeared on the rail intranet at the start of the month.

A search on google about a week ago revealed some of the RFS websites had posted on it in April

" Exercise Black Angus is a full scale multi agency exercise involving scenarios and active participation by a number of State and Commonwealth emergency services at a place of mass gathering. NSW Rural Fire Service personnel will participate with other members from NSW Police, Ambulance Service NSW, State Emergency Service and Fire & Rescue NSW, as the crowd at a large, simulated sporting event, transiting entry and exit points and seating within the venue. Our (RFS) participation will assist in assessing the capability of all emergency services responders in managing and co-ordinating a large simulated incident"

I have found in the past that the usual protocol instructions issued by the army and police for special or covert operations at Homebush is that all CCTV systems in the area (SOPA, Railcorp, RAS Showground etc) are disabled, before they commence their agenda.

Sounds like it will start sometime Sunday and maybe run into Monday (ie overnight scenarios?)

PS Rather than just post earlier on it, I have waited until the Police issued a media release on it .... its now in the public arena

people are soft Matt, there are habitual whingers which is why Police have to send these stupid letters out...

Its probly also aimed at stopping people from ringing "000" reporting suspicious behaviour if they are aware there is an excercise going on...

I remember when the airforce retired its last 707 by doing a nice formation flight over Sydney with two F/A-18s in echelon position, the emergency services were inundated with people calling triple zero because they though it was a terrorist attack..!

If they had any commonsense, they might realise that..

1) Jet airlines aren't painted grey like the 707 was and..

2) What good is calling triple zero when theres already two air force FA-18's, 30 feet away with guns and missiles aimed at the "target"

Yep, the more you help people, the stupider they get ;)

What's NOT popping up is anything on the ESO TGs. I thought we'd hear some sort of "liason" comms between the different GRN agencies... :?

I haven't seen anything either, Operation Capricorn, NSWAS was using 10339, and i think 10134 (D6xx) for NSWFR.

What for ? That is the purpose of a central command. A Liaison officer from each major service is there to pass on details to their relevant agency.
