Obviously VicPol have decided to join in the game...
When NSWPF media first expanded a few years ago, the Vics only had three staff. Some of the other forces only had 1 person doing all media work. The rapid expansion of the NSWPF media unit was in stark contrast to the other forces.

Re: News artcle on police encryption and PEATS
I suppose the inherent principle involved in dealing with the media is that if you tell porkies and cut corners with broadly what is the truth (given that there are reasonable limits as to what information should be released), then it will be your funeral, because of the end of the day, good media reporting will unravel it and show it in it's true light.
Essentially truth is at the heart of a democratic society, otherwise you have the beginnings of an autocratic society, a police state to pardon the pun

Re: News artcle on police encryption and PEATS
Yep, i work for one of the major news organisations here in Sydney and was having a chat just the other day to one of the journos who has access to PEATS. He basically said what we already know - the info that it displays is very vague and time delayed. He can't afford to send people out all the time to things that come up on PEATS as it could simply be a minor car accident or a major robbery - you just can't tell from the info displayed. We seem to get most of our info either from the public direct or by listening to one of the AM talkback stations who i think must have some good contacts somewhere.

So...some journos DO have access?one of the journos who has access to PEATS
How do they score that privilege?
Re: News artcle on police encryption and PEATS
They have to be a full time staff member (can not be sub-contracted) of an accredited media organisation in NSW and pass the Crim Check.
Here is Minister Kelly on ABC about PEATS:
