I have been told the early Motorola Sabre's would do midband.

Never seen one. have found several references on the web to it however.

I don't play with Simoco much but does the P25 option in the SRM9000 apply to midband ?

The original (analogue, 1980's vintage) SABER was available in midband, the ASTRO Saber (1993-2003, P25 capable) wasn't.

Similar looking radios, completely different internally.
