An impressive bit of kit, I wonder what they're worth?

It's interesting that the technology is now widely available to the public from a major manufacturer, I could see how someone could now easily set up their own PMR network!

No offence to Icom but why buy from Japan? We have an Australian company by the name of Omnitronics that have been doing this for years. We use quite a few of the IPR400s:

The challenge is not in buying the black boxes, the challenge is getting a grade of service from the carriers that will give you the relibility & performance you need for quality voice. Hooking up to a mobile phone will work, just, but when you start linking bases that way the quality is junk.

Cheers,

Richard

I hope you have VERY deep pockets... I know how much it cost my agency to do... though I'm not sure why you would want to sacrifice terrestrial, owned RF links for a "RoIP" solution. Digital RF links are available, not all that cheap for a private network though. It is really the backhaul links where carrier based RoIP becomes very attractive.

it was a theory richard, I looked into the price to obtain the right type of IP links to connect the repeaters together with a decent setup then thats as far as i went...

I don't have the problem of my wife knocking stuff back, I generally do myself as i see how much return i'm going to get on it and how long it will take to get it paid off... that usually does the trick to deter me
