That would depend on a few different factors, firstly whether the GRN coverage is up to scratch?

It would also depend on whose decision it is, if left up to the PF I'm sure it would stay operational forever, but I'd think the Telco Authority would be pushing to remove duplicate networks ASAP.

Another factor would be whether or not they re-purpose the hardware from the PF bases and incorporate it into GRN sites like they did in Melbourne? If so then that may bring forward the timetable considerably.

If the RFS are used as the bellwether, we could expect somewhere around 10-20 years

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont those frequencies listed above fall in to the Vhf hi band category?? If thats correct im not aware of nswpf using that frequency in the recent past, be interesting to know whats its used for. I know a few other sites in close proximity have had similar frequencies authorised in the last few days.

I'm sure I remember these high band VHF frequencies being used up in the Snowy Mountains years ago?

Wouldn't surprise me if the PF are only reinstating them now to try to make a point about GRN coverage pending their migration.

When I was up that way about 100 years ago (well a long time ago) there was a vote group with 159.0125 as the input and running 241.8 ctcss on the tx's:

Ingebyra 163.7750 159.0125 Ingebirah Trig, 28 K SW Jindabyne
Perisher Valley 163.6125 159.0125 NPWS site, Mt Perisher
Berridale 163.9625 159.0125 Wambrook Trig, Cooma
Thredbo 163.7000 159.0125 Mt Crackenback
Kiandra 163.4250 159.0125 Mt Selwyn
Eucumbene 163.8875 159.0125 Eucumbene Lookout

Now the million dollar question, was it VicPol or NSW radio on them...I can't remember

This new site at Tantangara seems to be part of that same vote group with a TX of 163.6125 MHz and an input of 159.0125 MHz, looking back through my old records I have that group labelled as NSWPF "SPEC OPS" (no idea where that name came from though).

The new site also has an additional base with a TX of 163.5875 MHz and an input of 158.9875 MHz but Tantangara is the only place that's licenced so I guess it may be a back channel perhaps, although why you would need one in such a remote place I have no idea?

So it appears there may be two vote groups, one with a 159.0125 input and the other with a 159.1500 input?
