New PF radio sites licenced

Post by Bigfella237 » Fri Feb 08, 2019 8:56 pm

Two new PF radio sites were added to the ACMA database this week (both authorised 30/Jan/2019):

468.2250 MHz - PEPPERS MOUNTAIN (Council Radio Site) - ACMA Site: 35249

468.7250 MHz - EAST MAITLAND (Cnr Mitchell Dr & Molly Morgan Dr) - ACMA Site: 404299

And one existing site was moved slightly (authorised 31/Jan/2019) from:

MULLALEY (Telstra Site Mullaley Wirraway Oxley Hwy) - ACMA Site: 132131

To:

78.2750 MHz & 469.2125 MHz - NOMBI (Mullaley Deer Park Lot 2 DP1055813 Oxley Highway) - ACMA Site: 10013705

Interestingly the first one at Peppers Mtn is virtually on top of a proposed North Coast GRN site. Aren't the PF supposed to be part of the CCEP trial?

The East Maitland site is an interesting one, from memory, there is an existing allocation at the Maitland Police station!

As a former local I am going to guess the East Maitland site will be to address some terrain issues around that area. There are some small hills that would have a definite impact on reception. And that area is currently growing really fast!

One NSWPF site disappeared from the ACMA listing this week:

Police Station, 5 Duke St GRAFTON NSW 2460 - ACMA Site: 35904

That takes their total down to 587 ACMA sites.

Two NSWPF sites disappeared from the ACMA listing this week...

WALGETT (Comm Site Trilby Park 7 km from) - ACMA Site: 35505

And...

FORSTER (Whoota Whoota Hill Lookout Wallingatt State Forest via) - ACMA Site: 100324

The first one at Trilby Park is more or less the same location as one of the North West CCEP GRN sites, I wonder if they're on the GRN in that area now and starting to remove the PF PMR network? Time will tell I guess?

Police are still using the vhf networks out that way. They are slowly rolling out the new uhf digital system to western region. New England and North West NSW is first then the rest of the region. What i understand is that the North coast and metro will join the Grn first then it will go from there.

Another PF site disappeared from the ACMA in the last couple of days...

BONDI JUNCTION (Kepplegate Apartments 37-43 Paul Street) - ACMA Site: 10008064

Yet another PF site disappeared from the ACMA in the last couple of days...

ROSELANDS (NSW Police Site Water Reservoir 36-40 Canarys Road) - ACMA Site: 5229

Not sure why they would be removing all these sites, generally speaking I don't think they're even close to moving onto the GRN, but there must be some kind of rationalisation going on?

I believed they removed a site that was surplus in terms of coverage .... adequately covered by other site frequencies on that existing channel following new sites added in mid 2018. From my notes it appears that the Roselands site serviced two frequencies 468.7500 (Foxtrot) and 468.2250 (Golf).

Same rationale for removal of the Bondi Jct site on 469.1000 (Charlie). New site at Waverley on 469.1000 added in May 2018

A bigger question is my mind is how long will the NSWPF leave their conventional network in situ (as a disaster recovery alternative) once they switch over to the GRN in a few years time.
