APX Radios now in use
APX Radios now in use
I noticed the Police Transport Command officers are using APX series portable radios (looks like the APX6000).
Not sure if it is a trial or if these radios are being released to replace the XTS2500/3000/5000 portables currently in use.

The XTL/XTS series is basically at the end of its life as far as Motorola is concerned, they've already discontinued support for all ASTRO 25 "AN" models and it wouldn't surprise me to see an announcement made for the rest any time soon?
APX radios first started to appear in mid 2008 so the first models are going on five years old now, combined with the push toward P25 Phase II (TDMA), which the XTL/XTS radios aren't capable of, it's really a shame that Motorola are still peddling the older radios at all; how many agencies have recently purchased bulk quantities of obsolete gear [coughs: NSWRFS] when they could've had a newer platform that's eminently more future-proof!
The APX platform was definitely designed to be upgradeable/expandable, heaps of processor power already on-board and has anyone noticed they have a micro-SD card slot? They already have Bluetooth built-in and there are rumours of on-screen mapping for the GPS function and a video RSM (lapel mic) that can Tx images on a TDMA network, it's not unthinkable that future models may even have features like a fingerprint scanner!

bring on the video stuff, that way idiots that claim police arrested them for no reason can be seen for the fools they are as well as what they did to come under police notice..
Re: APX Radios now in use
ASNSW are also rolling out the 6000's. Mainly round the south coast at this stage.

nice, ambo's probly need it more than the cops to show the shit they deal with from agressive patients that want to belt them..
Cops have the tools to for a worse word "fight back" whereas all the ambo's can do is stop the vehicle, push their duress button and let the person go off trashing the vehicle.. and hope the cops arrive to catch them in the act

I noticed the QPS Search/Rescue guys at the Surf Life Saving Championships at Kirra Beach with APX7000. SLSA event staff using TRBO DP4000 series which look
Similar to a APX6000, audio on both was amazing in high noise environment.

This is like a game of "Where's Wally"...
All I see is a plane, a rather second-hand fence and a dodgy looking power pole?
