SES licensed on 468.5000 in Metro

Post by cartman » Sun Feb 12, 2012 9:07 pm

I am currently updating my NSW Police metro listing (after finding an old excel spreadsheet i had prepared about 2007) and noticed some strange 2009 enteries for 468.5000Mhz Simplex

Licence 1911496 - SES - Tx Heathcote
Licence 1911497 - SES - Tx Camden
Licence 1911498 - SES - Tx Minto
Licence 1911499 - SES - Tx Bexley
Licence 1911500 - SES - Tx Picton
Licence 1911501 - SES - Tx Katoomba

One of my co-workers (who works in the SES Southern Region) had said to me he had Police frequencies in his SES Radio.
It didnt make sense then when I heard that comment and it still doesnt make sense why the Police would allow them access outside
468.6000-468.6500Mhz

PS 468.5000 use to be the Lima Channel but about 5 years ago became part of Vote 16 - Golf

SES have always had 3 Channels assigned to then within the National Police UHF Band for as long as I can remember (25odd years), but from memory I thought the three channels were 468.600, 468.625 & 468.650.

From a NSW SES profile I was given a while back the channels you mentioned (468.5000Mhz etc) are programmed for Victorian SES liasion, in analogue using the normal CTCSS tone of 107.2. Could it be something to do with that?

Actually the SES on the 468Mhz police band really begs the question why are they there still, given that the original allocation for the sites listed on 468.6000, 468.6125, 468.6250, 468.6375 and 468.6500 was associated with the Hawkesbury Nepean Flood disaster network, namely Kurrajong Heights, Mt Tomah, Wahroonga, and Penrith. There are also numerous simplex frequencies registered to SES depots around the metropolitan area on 468.6500Mhz. The old metropolitan disaster network (where hospitals would come on air briefly every wednesday at 9am on the 468.600-468.650Mhz segment) seems to have transferred itself to the NSWGRN many years ago

I would say that the devolvement of Transit Policing to the NSW Police Force, will further stretch the police comms capacity and it wouldn't suprised me in the least that the SES will be forced to vacate the 468Mhz Police Band, to make way for 5 extra metro channels for the police for use by groups like the Transport Command. After all they (SES) have numerous talkgroups now available on the GRN (including the Hawkesbury-Nepean Flood disaster channels) plus 467.250Mhz which appears to be a statewide frequency.

There is definitely a greater degree of co-operation happening between FRNSW & SES and I think you will see alot more sharing of channels & networks over time. Encryption of Police country networks is gradually forcing SES to make other arrangements. Besides that FRNSW is developing a high capacity backhaul capability conveniently running right into the SES's HQ... coincidence you think?

Makes me wonder if there's other plans for the transit command with the current rail sites on the grn.. Wouldn't have to do much, use existing radios used by transits, add encryption and it's all connected to rail security and vkg comms rooms.

Pretty sure the new transit cops will just use the working channel for whatever area they are in, just like they do now. Can't see them having a dedicated channel, no money to set up a citywide PMR vote group or to have a dedicated operator.

And remember they will not just be doing trains, but all forms of public transport. They won't be any more involved with cityrail than they are now.

No, no no, the police will dispatch on normal police channels. About the only thing Sec 4 will be used for is the 150 officers retained to do revenue protection, (yes back to the ticket snappers).

Also the railway will have little or nothing to do with the deployment of the Commuter Crime Unit. The railway security section will feed them intel, they will analyse it, then and only then will they act. The intel will come from contract security guards, station staff, train crew etc.

This is the current plan, stay tuned for further developments.
