Just come across this on GRE website, looks kinda neat / different to existing scanners.

The PSR-800 combines simple controls like those used in an MP3 player with the power and sophistication of a state-of-the-art scanning receiver!

Spectrum Sweeper rapidly finds nearby signals even if you do not know the frequency.

Upgradeable CPU and DSP firmware and library - Keep EZ Scan Digital current with enhancements and updates as they become available with free upgrades through EZ Scan Digital software utility program.

Complete USA and Canada Database On a MicroSD Card <-- assuming you just change that to your own Australian Database.

If the price isn't too bad, might invest in one of these.

HI all, yeah it rely's on the RR database to work. it has some great features too like a selectable discriminator output standard and a few other tweaks for the serious enthusiest but unless you can edit the SD card for local stuff its no good.
why dont you drop Raj at GRE an email to find out, he's a nice enough fellow. he's helped me out a few times over the years with my 500's.
cheers
Matt

Yeah, surely you can edit the contents of the SD card, ill enquire and let you know, as RR database is fairly outdated here in Australia.

Great scanner, great specs. As for looks, well I don't think it looks kinda neat at all. Looks like a scanne I owned in the early 90's actually. Its ugly and boxy.
But hey, as they say, its whats on the inside that counts right?

While the library is setup for the US and Canada, the user can create V Folders using any parameters you like within the capabilites of the scanner. Having tested the PSR800 and the Homepatrol (I am doing comparison for Uniden) the Homepatrol is a much easier radio to set and use. And before anyone says - "of course you would say that", that is certainly not the case. When I do a report for Uniden it is very much warts and all.

If you can use a Uniden UBCD396T then you can use the Homepatrol. Operation is via a full featured touch screen.

If you can use a PSR500 or PSR600 then there are certain similarities with the PSR800. But setup is different and operation is limited to a few buttons, then scrolling through the appropriate list.

Either way it is subjective when it comes to scanners, and basically reflects the Holden and Ford argument.

When Matts gets his, I will help him as best I can.
