Suggested New forum group - Security

Post by cartman » Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:46 am

As a suggestion for a new forum - Security.
There is a myriad of security out there on all sorts of frequencies, trunking systems and the like.

I was listening about 11pm tonight and picked up some transmissions on 463.3500 131.8 CTCSS
On looking it up on the ACMA it turns out (given my listening location) I was listening to Flemington Markets security using 5 watts.about 3-4km away
One of the guards was talking about the (flag) pole in the plaza (where the bank branches are located) is missing due repairs and a barrier was required.
Reference was made vehicles exiting via No.2 gate and that one of the guard callsigns was "Oscar 3"
As folk would realise the Markets is more or less a 24hr site .... a lot of wholesale produce would be arriving overnight and early in the morning
I will pay this frequency more attention in the future (and have a backwards look through my notes to see what I have logged before there)

If you are just setting out with a scanner or just bored, I put together some notes which Garry Luxton has published on his website concerning how to learn how to listen and log security users
Above all having a inquiring but open mind is a great assistance
Be prepared to think and search laterally
For instance last night after I figured out it was Flemington Markets on that frequency, I was able to use some of the information broadcast to confirm the identification .... eg "plaza" ... on the Flemington Markets map, the business shopping area is referred as the plaza, which meant I definitely had confirmation of the correct location.

Found another security user - this time embedded in the 6 channel MPT1327 site off Sydney Tower (data channel 505.075, voice 505.7000, 506.0875, 506.6500, 506.9750 and 507.4750). Not sure who they are but they are situated possibly in the northern suburbs - one user has a callsign of "Ryde 20",
The radios on Unitrunker and trunkview show up with "3-3242 to 3-3249" designation.
