Temporary Mode S radar at Cecil Hills now gone
Temporary Mode S radar at Cecil Hills now gone
Noticed yesterday that the temporary Mode S radar at Cecil Hills (near Elizabeth Drive, old Wallgrove Rd and M7) which had provided data for Sydney Airport while the airport mode s installation was being built (and now completed), has been removed. It was there about 6weeks ago when i was out that way last.

Hi all,
It appears a new radar has appeared at that site and looks permanent. I just happened to be heading up the M7 yesterday and noticed it up on Cecil Hills.
Cheers
Matt

Been there for a number of months ... appears to be a permanent backup to the airport site

Does it sit up there next to the big microwave tower?
Might get put to better use when they build Badgerys creek airport!

I moved out of blacktown just in time, at the peak of the market.
The preferred runway configuration in previous versions of badgerys creek is sw/ne due to prevailing winds.
Highly likely that the Horsley Park ridgeline will pick up more comms gear to link the two airports, as it has a commanding position over the nepean basin

I thought I saw a map showing it as a East West runway. Planes could come in over the mountains which has minimal impact to surrounding residents when it comes to noise.
