Apple store opening - Penrith Westfield 23-07-11

There is a Apple store opening in Penrith Westfield tomorrow morning at 9am, people are expected to be sleeping outside their doors from late this afternoon...

Anyone out & about or living around the Penrith metro area tonight through till tomorrow morning might want to keep the Westyfield channels programmed in their scanner:

463.150Mhz - main channel 1
466.650Mhz - Car park channel1 2
463.075Mhz - back channel 4

I noticed that the McDonald's in the food court has signs up saying they will be staying open to feed anyone sleeping outside the Apple store, so I would say there would be a fair bit of activity in the shopping centre tonight

A fellow member of this forum gus289 told me this morning he checked out the Apple store the other day & they had two security guards on duty who had Motorola 2.4ghz digital portables on them.

I did a google on these 2.4Ghz radio's & they are licence free & very secure, doing digital/spread spectrum & a claimed range of 10KM! on 100mw output that would be very line of sight!

All Apple stores use the DTR2450. They are the largest user of these radios in Australia. I can get you are price if you would like?

Thanks Russell, but although I am sorely tempted I have overused my radio buying allowance... even though I got a decent tax return this year I still have some big debts to repay... I worked out with all the money I've spent on ebay over the past 4 years I would have had my credit card payed off!

I went into an Apple store earlier this year, and have been wondering ever since what radios they used. Been going to ask on here since then, but kept thinking I'd go back someday and try and figure it out myself. You sure saved me the time!

That, as well as the info on the radios in the links posted above advises they operate in the 2.4 GHz range using spread spectrum - no chance of picking them up.
