The customers were still there yesterday, though i noticed that Bridgeclimb have moved over to AAP - perhaps a sign that GPT will go first

I have been working on the numbers that are still on GPT800 and AAP800 - there are far too many - will post an updated list soon.
These two sites could be around probably longer than we expect, as the current TETRA trunking network doesnt suit some of the customers for their business uses

Bridgeclimb is like an iceberg
For every radio we see on Unitrunker there are another six-eight radios which are set on receive only and we dont see on Unitrunker
I am not sure how those climber radios work as they dont seem to affiliate .... possibly preset to receive one talkgroup on scan

Last time i climbed, they ask you to make sure they are on a designated channel, but that was a few years ago.

Seems the site is only really being maintained for Bridgeclimb. Still not sure why they don't just use simplex for the majority of their channels. Maybe in days gone by there was less chance of interference on a trunked network by unwanted users?
Sydney Ports could switch over to the GRN and the other users to the TETRA networks.

I think AAP is now the domain of bridgeclimb more or less ... would not suprised me if there is over a thousand radios in use - we can only see the affiliating radios
There are a few bridgeclimb groups still left on GPT
GPT has a couple big users (SCG/SFS and Motorola Rental Radios) plus a number of smaller users
I suspect that many of the users have bought their radios, are happy with the service and are staying put (which apparently is a key issue in the Motorola Contract and Service Agreement)
The one 800Mhz user (a small produce merchant/distributer) that i knew from about 10 years ago had bought outright Motorola "Visar's"
Suspect that is the issue with Sydney Ports ... they own the radios as several of them appear to be Type I configuration
A good question about Sydney Ports Corporation - i have often wondered that myself
I have no doubt that they will told to switch over to the GRN
At the rate Railcorp and a few other Agencies are downsizing, a number of their radios could be easily reprogrammed over to the smaller corporations without much cost to Government (asset transfer and paper $ adjustments between departments)
800Mhz TETRA may work in the other cities but the general consensus from the few scraps of information i am hearing is that in Sydney it struggles with the lower power output, hilly terrain (ridges and gullies) and insufficient sites.
800Mhz Analogue on the other hand is a proven system that several of its users prefer

I dont understand the 'need to go digital' in the case of the 800mhz Motorola trunking. if the system is still going ok and provided the support and customers are there why is there a need to change?
It has had its fair share of users over the years and i guess a few have moved on to other systems but there is still a need to service a few that want to stay. last i checked a couple of months ago the 800mhz moto system at Isaccs ridge in the ACT was still on the air for just a courier company. there were no other users on the system.
