Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can provide me with some info on this type of radio system.
Firstly, can you monitor this radio system with a 396t or 996t?
Secondly, do you need a computer program to monitor this system?
This radio system is entirely new to me, and any info would be grateful.
Thanks,
HVS

you need a scanner with an audio out connection on it( most scanners have them )
download a program called trunkview
you will need an audio cable to connect from your scaner audio out -> sound card on your pc
you will need to find the mpt control channels, and the best you can do is analyse data unles you want to hook up a second scanner and let trunkview do the tracking for you.

Up your way (i am assuming you are in the Newcastle-Maitland-Cessnock area) you can hear MPT data channels on 165-168Mhz (Vertel and Telstra Fleetcoms) and 505-508Mhz (Gencom)
Once you learn to recognise the data noise then try 415-420Mhz (more Telstra Fleetcoms) ... there are a few here as well, as well as numerous GRN Motorola control channels

And to answer your question about the 396/996, they cannot track MPT systems on their own.
