NZ P25 Systems

Post by matthewn1983 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 8:14 pm

Below is a couple of findings from NZ over the New Year, didnt get too much of a chance to mess around with it, but found these whilst on bus trips here and there. Just from some quick looking around, the A43A7 and A4397 systems are Nationwide P25 by TeamTalk, and is specifically for NZ Police, however there is still some analog police is rural/country areas. Still alot of M36 trunking networks out there, and MPT1327 systems as well. Forgot to take the USB cable with me so couldnt decode any of the sites via laptop, only gathering information from what was displayed on the LCD screen. (bit messy but copy/pasted from spreadsheet)

Airwave don't seem to be very imaginative in setting up their systems.

The new Ergon Energy system in Queensland, being rolled out by Airwave Solutions, uses the same numbers (Sys R NAC W).

Pity Airwave don't follow the APCO guidelines for assigning WACN and System IDs.

Feb 2010 - National New Zealand APCO P25 Network Goes Live
Auria has delivered a 3 city APCO P25 digital trunked radio solution to TeamTalk New Zealand, providing advanced digital communications operation to users in the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch regions.
The network was overlayed on TeamTalk's existing nationwide IP infrastructure network utilising existing radio links and site infrastructure, providing a cost effective way to upgrade legacy solutions to a state of the art APCO P25 digital offering.
Managed from TeamTalk's NOC (Network Operations Centre) in Wellington, the Auria solution also includes the first ISSI gateway deployed in the Asia Pacific region, which allows interconnection to other APCO P25 networks to allow authorised users to roam from one network to another.

"utilising existing radio links and site infrastructure"

YUCK! What a short sighted, stingey approach to a network upgrade...

It's a bit unfair to make that call without actually knowing what they were already running...

Not really, I've looked at that technology myself- it essentially allows the old analogue bases to be retained with this product doing the conversion from analogue to digital & back again. Very "Scottish"... It totally ignores issues such as stability, lifespan etc.

Was in auckland yesterday.
Identified 10 separate 498mhz P25 control channels / sites in the Auckland area and dozens of p25 frequencies in use.
I will update this post in the next couple of days with my findings at each port (eg mpt1327,DMR, NXDN,TETRA etc. while returning to Sydney
