P25 VHF system ? Sorry but is someone on the council selection panel on medication ?

Why on earth would a local regional council implement P25 technology in 2013 ? DMR is FAR cheaper and better value for $$ AND you can get 2 x talk paths. Don't get me wrong, we use Tait P25 gear and it's top quality however a local council changing their entire radio system over to P25 is simply nuts and a waste of $$.

Well they have done it pretty cheaply... look at the console to network interface.

thats like saying "I purchased a BMW but went with sheep skin seat covers instead of leather to save on costs"

DMR could have been installed with less than half the costs, PLUS double the capacity(2 slots)

Not getting into that debate news... there are well known pros & cons for both. P25 can be built quite cheaply & the hardware will most likely last them much longer. In terms of the capacity you may be right (well, you are) but it may not have been a user requirement.

Have you also considered whether compatibility with the hardware used by other agencies may be a benefit? For example, the ready availability of dual UHF-VHF P25 radios... RFS, NPWS (potentially), Police (potentially etc... none of these other agencies use DMR. Your argument has the same flaw as Health choosing Tetra for John Hunter... though I agree with you on the issue of cost- but cheapest is not always the logical choice.

I read somewhere in the references that Armidale were also aware that a similar/identical vhf p25 setup had been installed successfully in the coffs harbour council area that is also noted for its hilly terrain.
