Thanks, it will be interesting to see if Vertel have the guts (and very deep pockets) to try and do what Moto have tried... and I seriously doubt Moto have made a $ out of the east coast Zeon. Vertel have the expertise and infrastructure, but I would hate to see them go out backwards by investing heavily in a network that will, by its design constraints, need to have enormous infrastructure investment to see it cover much more than Sydney and a few road corridors. Seriously, who is going to use it? What can it deliver that the other commercial networks already do?

Who are they pitching this system at? "Our TETRA product is part of the SELEX range, one of only a handful of products in the world that is built to ATEX standards for work in hazardous environments, particularly suited for industries such as Mining or Oil and Gas"

The VTTT brochure shows a fireman on the job.

And if this is the radio, the specs are quite impressive, maybe overkill.

I sat down and looked at what TETRA frequencies were active and what was spare in the Sydney region and got the distinct impression that Motorola has under-invested in putting up a network. They have decided to put up a certain number of transmitters and no more. There are numerous free frequencies to add extra sites if they wanted to put in saturation coverage for their portables and bases. Somewhere they have made an economic decision ... so many transmitters and no more. So long as they have this approach they will continue to have patchy coverage.

I use ZEON(TETRA) on a daily basis, if your in service/coverage, the audio WILL whip P25 audio in a heartbeat. the key is "IF". the radios actually sound like a human voice and not come computer/robotic noise.

ZEON works VERY, VERY well in Metro QLD, the service is better than a mobile phone, compared to sydney its light years ahead. considering there is significantly more users in QLD you would expect that.

Richard, There is under 130 users in Sydney, compared to 290+ in QLD, even Brisbane SES is on ZEON. Considering the monthly fees, there is plenty of profit to be made. \

RE: "need to have enormous infrastructure investment", Vertel already have the required bandwidth so site linking via RF, MW, IP is not an issue. Remember with the forced lockout of the 400meg spectrum, Vertel also need to vacate a significant amount of channel holdings.

Well I have two words for Vertel... good luck.

And remember that the whole future of 900MHz is up in the air at the moment and the ACMA have a clear view that this spectrum is extremely valuable. If anyone is looking at setting up 900MHz based networks they better consider first if they have deeper pockets than Telstra and Voda... now consider if a Tetra network can generate more revenue than LTE- because when it comes to this spectrum that is their competition.

One & the same... 800MHz is EMBARGOED! No new licences being issued... unless Vertel hold current licences they aren't going to get new ones.

Grant,

Hope you are enjoying Romania... it comes down to what revenue it is generating. Why would Moto invest more in a network that is not profitable?

Ok so why isn't it profitable? Seems the US can make 800mhz trunking work and work well?
Cheers
