Back on the subject of GRN sites in rail stations...

Would it only be underground stations that have/need dedicated coverage (assuming that above ground stations already have coverage from the regular GRN sites)?

If that's the case then we only really need to confirm the site numbers of Mascot (which may have coverage from Green Square) and the Domestic Airport station (which I'm guessing might have coverage from the International Airport station) and maybe Wolli Creek (possibly with coverage from Redfern), I know Wolli Creek isn't actually an underground station but it does terminate an underground line?

The only problem with that argument is, why do we need sites at Kogarah, Hurstville and Sutherland?

Three intersecting reasons.

A. There are no "champion" sites nearby to the 3 stations to provide good coverage to portables.

B. Kogarah and Hurstville stations platforms are essentially "shielded" from what coverage exisits by the above ground structures on the station sites. In a way the need is similar to "in building " coverage.

C. Sutherland is in a bit a relative low point & small cutting to the station platform. Poor coverage despite Heathcote and Miranda being nearby.

Overall, I would say that Railcorp felt that the portable coverage was not good enough for their use, and use by essential services / emergency responders and warranted the in-fill. They paid for it themselves, no help from GCIO. The shoild be commended for following through on a duty of care.

PS there is a long history of poor coverage in the St George and Sutherland areas. A site around the ridge line at Hurstville (tall building or say the Telephone Exchange at Bridge St) would be quite useful. (not to say it would fix everything though).

Originally there was only GPT, Chullora and Heathcote to attempt to cover the areas. Miranda and later Cronulla were established but there are still problems.

Mt Penang, Cowan and Mt Elliot are still running their Analogue Control Channels... bit strange since i didn't recall seeing these mentioned as being tied to NSWFR DSREC channels...

Thanks Andrew,

Cowan and Penang are disaster recovery sites (DSREC02 and DSREC11 respectively), Mt Elliot is supposed to be 100% P25 already?

The main sites I would expect to see updated soon are:

Site 102 - Beecroft
Site 103 - Bilgola Plateau
Site 108 - Glenbrook
Site 113 - Bateau Bay
Site 114 - Copacabana
Site 128 - Hassans Walls
and a dozen odd underground and in-building sites
