Sydney Ferries seem to have the same channel setup on Digital

Going off my notes from previous listening I would take an educated guess at their usuage

10901 Ferry rosters, schedules etc c/s Wharf Control
10902 Harbour Ferry Control
10903 Sea trials
10904 Manly runs
10905
10906 Balmain Yard refuelling
10907 Balmain Yard controller
10908
10909
10910
10911
10912 - 10929 Longline PA

10924 = Longline PA - Rose Bay, Watsons Bay
10925 = Longline PA - Taronga Park Zoo

Need feedback re confirmation or correction

If Grant's theory is correct, Parramatta River Control should still be on Ch 10 which should translate to TG 10910?

I'll sit on Site 47 on 10910 and confirm that for everyone :)

I've been thinking about these Sydney Ferry talkgroups and, you'll have to forgive my ignorance as I haven't been on a ferry since I was a kid but, how do those "Longline PA" talkgroups work? I assume they're there so the crew on-board the ferry can use the public address systems on the wharves?

Does this mean that every single wharf must have a separate talkgroup (otherwise the announcement would be broadcast at multiple wharves even if the ferry wasn't there)? That means there must be 38 different talkgroups attached to wharf PA systems? Or is it only used at unmanned wharves?

So, does anyone ride the ferries who could scan each wharf to identify which TGs are for which wharves?

So far I have:
10912 - Parramatta wharf
10920 - McMahons Point wharf
10921 - Meadowbank wharf
10924 - Rose Bay wharf (and Watsons Bay wharf??)
10925 - Taronga Park Zoo wharf

(Not sure if these are 100% accurate?)

Any thoughts on the above?

Seems like overkill to use the GRN for a PA speaker that's only metres away from the ferry, I guess there must be ACMA licencing issues with having a simplex frequency for each wharf instead?

Bigfella - i think you have an incorrect understanding of what longline PA is
Longline PA is setup from a central control point, probably from the admin office at Circular Quay in the case of the ferries
The railways have a similar setup ie announcements can made for an individual station or group of stations from a central control location in the Sydney CBD
I have seen and heard the rail version of longline PA

Thanks Grant,

I think I sort of get the idea now... so would there be a series of wharves on each talkgroup or still one for each?

It can't be one TG per route as Parramatta and Meadowbank are only 3 stops apart and apparently have separate talkgroups?

Sorry to be a pain, as I said, I haven't been on a ferry probably since GPT was site 1 of a single zone system! Just trying to get my head around how these Longline PA systems work?
