Re: NSWFB
Hi Grant,
Thanks for the feedback! Yes I do agree with you that the Newcastle audio is the best of the 3 so far. I'm not certain why that is as they all come back on the same compressed Telstra service. Wollongong's is definitely the worst. We should wait until Sydney goes across on Monday night as this will have no compression on any links- it should be the best of the lot. The compressed links will be replaced in about a month, maybe a little sooner.
Cheers,
Richard

Hi all, yeah must admit the quality of the wollongong comms TG is not real good right now. even some of the wollongong appliances sound really bad at times, gets hard to hear. while the PMR links arnt the best sounding their at least consistant in quality.
wondering too in the snow and south coast areas where P25 GRN coverage is, are they going to the GRN?
cheers
Matt

Re: NSWFB
Govt / GCIO has made an interesting choice for their link provider.
Thats all I will say!
Other than: the links are a mix of microwave and terrestrial lines, and may run over other Telco systems, however, GCIO's chosen link provider is responsible for end to end performance.

Oops sorry Richard,
I was thinking the problerms were in the site-to-NOCC links, my mistake.
So you are not using the Govt's recommended link provider??
If you can work out the casue of the problems let me know in a PM or some such, I'm interested as my group is testing various mux's / voice cards for some proposed upgrades and among other things are finding that some ADPCM (ie 32 kb/s compression) configs are not working so well.

I have heard Batemans Bay 217 go out earlier and there was no PMR screech at the end of their transmission so I assume they are now using the GRN. Would you still hear that sound if it was digital PMR?

Yes Mark Merimbula are where they are supposed to be. An SO at Batemans took it upon himself to switch over... we still haven't had the date for the south coast to go over but it will be soon. There will be some training delivered first...
