RFS Cash injection

Post by resin8or » Sun Nov 14, 2010 1:30 am

Just found on SMH website. Apologies if I put it in the wrong area, but it is relevant as money is going into the radio network.

THE NSW government will tip $100 million into bushfire protection measures, including new communications networks and an aerial response team to deploy aircraft.

Premier Kristina Keneally will today present the injection as a response to Victoria's Black Saturday tragedy that killed 173 people.

Backburning across the 22 million hectares of NSW considered at risk will be enhanced, with $84 million for strategic hazard reduction.

Spending measures include:

$11.2 million to upgrade Rural Fire Service radio and pager networks.

$4.5 million to establish a "rapid aerial response team".

$3.4 million to maintain ''neighbourhood safer places'' as a last resort for those trapped by fire.

$2.15 million a year for awareness campaigns.

"It is incumbent on us to learn from Victoria's terrible Black Saturday experience, which is why we're boosting vital services across the state with this $106.9 million bushfire package," Ms Keneally said.

The first $11.7 million will be rolled out in 2011-12.

Almost $10 million of $84 million for backburning will be spent recruiting 80 workers to the RFS.

Only problem is it is 100 million of our straws!

I don't begrudge any department the money, but one question arises, why are they doing it now and not earlier? No doubt some spin doctor will have an answer for that.

The more $$ on the GRN and blackspots the more incentive there is for the official push to move nswpol over to the GRN and stop spending the millions on multiple networks. Any paging can go through the GRN along with all other comms. just a waste of cash. Once the police shift over, there will be plenty of currently wasted cash to spend on the real needs of emerg services/rfs/ses etc

yeah but i guess you can promise the $100 million when your not coming back. like everything else this sex fingers government has touched even if in the slightest chance they got back more than half would end up in red tape and the areas that need it wouldnt see it.
just wish these idiots would end the pain now, March is too far away.

If the current govt somehow gets back in, it will just be proof that the system is corrupt...
