Is it just me...

Post by Air490 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 6:10 pm

Being a public holiday I thought it would be a good day to set up a spreadsheet with the new digital control channels. Away I went cuting and pasting like a champion. That's when I found there seems to be more discrete control channels in the P25 system than there was in the analogue system. I found that using 31 CCs (in a PSR-500) covered the vast majority of sites in the state. So far I have found 40CCs and have only done about half the state.

Am I doing something wrong, or does the new system not re-use the CCs?

Some of if not all of the current p25 control channels are the backup control channels from the old 4.1 system...

When I was programming my PSR500, I found 96 distinct control channels in "the list". That coincidentally is 3 x 32. Three zones, three sets of 32 CCs?...

There were actually 91 distinct control channels on the old 4.1 system.

And there are 93 "OBT ASTRO 25 Control Channels" in the current profile:

OK then. Likes like an area based setup will be needed.
At least it keeps things interesting!

Yeah, it always annoyed me no end that Uniden scanners won't allow you to input enough CCs to get all the freqs into one site, from memory I think the limit is 40 freqs per site?

It doesn't really make that much difference on the newer DMA scanners as it's still scanning the same amount of channels whether they be in one site or three, but on the older trunk-trackers it meant copying talkgroups across three banks which chewed up precious memory?

I don't have that issue with my Uniden 996?
