NSW P25 GRN - Radio IDs

Post by Bigfella237 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 5:56 pm

I thought we should transfer the discussion on radio IDs away from the TGID topic.
ivahri wrote:This numbering convention is intended to permit radios to be used nationally by ensuring there are no duplicated radio IDs within Australia. The first digit will be the state identifier (same as for broadcast), with the second digit identifying the type of service (ie. fire, ambulance etc), the third being the agency (though some will use more than one of these). Cheers, Richard
(Note: I do NOT intend nor want to start listing individual radio IDs here, this is only a list of how the IDs are allocated! However, if anyone wants to collaborate privately with specific RIDs you can PM me for details?)

(I should also note that the numbering convention below assumes that all RIDs are seven (7) digits regardless of how many preceeding zeros they may have. For example, the Victorian MMR RID "79997" should be considered as "0079997" ie The first digit of this RID is zero not seven.)

First digit (State code):
0 = none (possibly to allow the Victorian MMR time to bring their RIDs into line)
1 = Australian Capital Territory
2 = New South Wales
3 = Victoria
4 = Queensland
5 = South Australia
6 = Western Australia
7 = Tasmania
8 = Northern Territory
9 = Federal Government

Second digit (Service code):
0 = Emergency Services
1 = Law Enforcement Services
2 = Public Utility Services
3 = Medical & Transport Services
4 = Marine & Environmental Services
5 = Unknown
6 = Non Government Organisations
7 = Unknown
8 = Unknown
9 = GRN Services

Don't want to rain on your parade, but my NSW departments talkgroups are/start 11### and we are not corrective services. So if I am reading the list right, it doesn't really work.

Rusty,

Read again! These are the radio IDs, not the talkgroup IDs.

Cheers,

Richard

Yeah sorry Rusty but we're looking at radio IDs not talkgroups?

I doubt that TGs are bound by any sort of National numbering scheme as they are only being issued to NSW agencies and are only valid on this particular system, whereas a radio's ID may be programmed across multiple systems (NSWGRN, MMR, SAGRN etc.)?

Andrew

BTW, thanks to everyone for quoting the entire list! ;)

OK Matt, I'm intrigued... do you mean a RID like 000xxxx?

I suppose this is handy in case some services have interstate TGs programmed into them, then interstate agencies can tell when out of state users are on their systems. SES and maybe RFS are a good example of agencies that this may happen too. Though I am not sure if they even have liaison TGs programmed into them.

At the moment I doubt anyone has multi-state trunk systems programmed, that would require an Advance System Key (ASK) for each interstate system and an Advanced WACN Key (AWK) to enable Intra-WACN Roaming?

I wonder how this would work even if all of the above were in place? For example, if a NSWSES unit was to go to Victoria and was setup to roam with their MMR network, it would still only be able to talk on Victorian talkgroups, they still wouldn't be able to communicate with the NSWGRN talkgroups (i.e. talk from Melbourne back to Sydney)?

Although I guess it would be possible to create a common set of talkgroups on every state's TRN and RoIP them all together on each system? That way an agency could patch that interstate liaison TG with one of there own TGs (after seeking permission from the NOCC of course) and theoretically have comms nation-wide? Very interesting...

Anyway, my guess is that none of this is yet in place but at least someone's thinking ahead... Bravo!

Andrew

In the past I been told by others in the know that the feds have had a liking for 7 digit radio numbers starting with 9XXXXXX
Not sure if that will transfer over to this system but it is possible

As for collection of radio ids i am always interested in swapping information in private message or email (grant2137@netspace.net.au)
I have already started my P25 list - up to about 120 radios

No doubt (as already has happened in the past) somebody will question the value of collecting radio ids
But i can assure you it serves a number of purposes
Some radios are pooled / tasked as required (eg Corrective Service prison van radios regularly change their CE number) whereas others are permanent allocated to a user wherever he or she goes (eg RTA, ambulance etc)
On a monitoring system like Pro96.com (if i ever get it to work properly) tagging the radio id enables you to get instant information as to the subsequent identity of the user without having to consult a list
On the old analogue system it even alerted me to some very strange goings on (which i duly passed onto the proper folk to investigate and follow up)

So obviously we don't want individual radio ids listed here, but collecting the information does serve the purpose of assisting in updating the block list above

G'day Grant,

I'm still waiting for Longreach to get back to me with the intel he gathered from his visit to the ACT yesterday (I've been PMing with him but he's a little busy at the moment) but he has hinted at getting RIDs starting with "zero" that I was thinking might be federal? Both zero and nine 'First Digit' RIDs haven't been added to this list yet but I guess time will tell?

I would be happy to collaborate privately with RID tags, I reckon I've got about the same number logged so far (most of them without alpha tags but it's early days yet); I'm busy this afternoon but when I get home I'll compile what I have and PM you. I get a fair amount of ACT traffic down here off Mt Cronin (and hopefully the Mt Budawang/Mt Clear simulcast site once it goes P25) so some Sydney metro RIDs would be great!

Andrew
