Weren't they the people who did security for the state premier and other state pollies? On the old 4.1 network they were digital encrypted on TGs in the early 55000's?

Andrew
I thought NSW Police provided security for the state premier and other politicians under one of the many specialist units, as I recall sometime back they are called PSG(Protective Security Group) but may have undergone a name change since..

NSW Protective Services from what I understand use to be the Security Arm of the NSW Police Service, not fully fledged Police Officers but Special Constables.

They use to provide Door Security at the Sydney Police Centre and provided Security for other Key NSW Government Buildings including many NSW Hospitals.

Grant,

Special Constables do still do the security at Govt Buildings like Dept Public Prosecutions, SPC, Dog Squad @ Menai etc but they are or used to be part of the NSW Police SMB(Security Management Branch)..

I wish there were alot more special constables within the health system, but health don't want it as they'd prefer to waste police resources rather than fix the problems within the health system ... I won't go into any further detail publically...

I saw the Premier yesterday at the Cabramatta Moon Festival walking through the crowds
From memory the callsign "Security 3" use to be the premiers escort car and use to surface onto Alpha to liase with the RTA to get the traffic lights co-ordinated for a smooth run through the city.

I didn't think they did that over here?

I remember being stuck at a set of lights in the city many years ago and wondering why they were red in all directions when all of a sudden a shit-load of police motorcycles appeared from nowhere and blocked off the entire intersection just in time for old Bubba Clinton to go screaming through in a convoy of big black Chevy SUVs! I've seen on TV that in the US, the presidential convoy never stops for anything, must be a nightmare to coordinate?

Andrew

P.S. Sorry, I know I'm wandering OT yet again

Andrew,

Yea it still happens, every once and a while you will hear a HWY Patrol Cars call up on the RTA TMU Channel asking for a Priority 1 Run through the lights, usually a Transplant Delivery, although I have not heard any HWY Cars Coordinating with TMU for 6 months or more now.

The last one I heard was back around March, around Midday or there abouts and it was a Newcastle HWY Car asking for a Priority 1 Run to RPA from the F3. The HWY Car coordinated with TMU giving its position as it headed in towards the City.
