GRN Albury

Post by aircadet » Mon Oct 04, 2021 4:13 pm

When and if the GRN comes to Albury, who will use it? Sites seem to be added but are not active.. RFS, SES and VRA? NSW Ambulance and Fire?
Cheers!

With all of the Sites added on the ACMA Database for the Southern Region, it's not a matter of 'if' but a matter of when will Albury Switch over.

The switch over will occur once the GRN Footprint within the Greater Hume, Corowa, Wagga, Junee, and Tumut LGA's is wide enough to provide Safe Radio Coverage . . . if it is like the Mid North Coast of NSW, which was rather quick . . . you may start to see the main radio traffic users (RFS, FRNSW & Ambo's) switch over anywhere within the 12 -36 months.

And Yes you will see Ambulance, FRNSW, RFS, SES, NPWLS, NSW Fisheries, RTA, Councils, Electrical Authorities, and maybe Police and VRA swap over

Comm's in the Hume Region are actually quiet good, unlike what it use to be. There was a Major up-grade through the 90's for the RFS, FRNSW and Ambo's which improved the radio coverage greatly North and East of Albury, especially for FRNSW.

Looking at the expansion of the GRN, there are currently less GRN Sites listed with the ACMA then what some of the Services currently have . . . RFS and ASNSW are good example with both currently having RPT's at the same sites. So coverage may drop for the RFS & ASNSW by switching to the GRN, especially up in the Murray River Arm of Lake Hume which has One Less GRN Site then what the RFS & ASNSW currently have, so unless the planned GRN Site is sited in a better location . . . RFS & ASNSW coverage may drop in the Woomargama region.
