What's This?

Post by WiLDRAGoN » Fri Apr 06, 2012 12:00 pm

Scanner just stopped on an unusual TGID, and I could only hear one side of the conversation. Not sure what it means, but this is what was displayed on the screen, it was flashing between these two ID's during the conversation...

ID: i2230242 SRC
ID: i2230239 DST

I pressed HOLD, and when the conversation ended, it stopped on ID: i2230242 (without the SRC). I was then able to hear the normal TMC Talkgroup, (10702), and when there was no activity on 10702, the scanner would go back to displaying ID: i2230242.

Using a UBCD396XT.

Commonly known as an I call. This is a direct conversation between two induvidual radios, hense the strange IDs starting with i. Many scanners have the option to monitor these when they come up, or even monitor iCalls only.
Funny thing is, the people using iCall actually think their conversation is private, like a mobile phone call..

Thanks soupbones.

matthewn1983, I think it was around 11:50 actually, about 10 mins before I posted.

EDIT: Ok, just noticed that the time is wrong on the forum, so yes, about 10:50.

Yeah the forum doesn't automatically adjust for daylight savings time (or the absence thereof), each member needs to go into their "Control Panel" (link at the top of each page) and turn off DST manually if you want the correct time displayed.

Hearing these i-calls again this morning from Radio ID's 223####, but can't find any info on who uses those RID's. Anyone got an idea who it might be?

223xxxx is Endeavour Energy, those 2 particular users are ones that go and do emergency repairs, faults etc.

also check out http://scansydney.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=532 it will help you out. :]

And like all good scanning enthusiasts, we hit the scan button as soon as we realise it's an I-Call....don't we? ;)
