From the Advertiser:-

Motorola to take charge of SA government radio network.
From: AAP May 04, 2010 11:41AM

COMMUNICATIONS company Motorola Australia has been contracted to support the State Government's radio network.
Police and Emergency Services Minister Michael Wright said today the company would provide specialist systems and technical services for the next three years.

Mr Wright said the radio network was vital to the day-to-day operations of police and emergency services and was one of the largest public safety radio networks in the world.

It covers 14,500 mobile devices, 16,000 pagers and more than 200 towers providing cover for across 220,000 square kilometres.

"This network is regarded by many other governments as one of the most effective public safety communications systems because of its seamless communication between the many agencies and individuals called upon to respond to emergencies anywhere at anytime," Mr Wright said in a statement.

Motorola previously provided maintenance and support for the network as a sub-contractor but now becomes the principal provider of all support services.

Mr Wright said the company had demonstrated it was ideally positioned and equipped to provide the state with an effective, low-risk approach to the ongoing management and operational services required to support the radio network.

Does it really matter who runs it ? particularly Motorola ?? SA is much easier than NSW.

I bet they are way behind what other vendors presented last year. P25 trunked capable radios with Telstra Next G sim card slots in them. No GRN coverage?, radio just puggybacks onto next G without the user even knowing its happened.
