Merry Christmas

Just a quick message to all the users on here, wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It's been an interesting year, lots of changes. Thanks to all of you who have contributed, either here on this forum or elsewhere. Good to see that the hobby is still alive and kicking. The next year looks to be challenging as well, as you have read the NSW GRN is moving into a Phase 2 network. The recent news that a $320,000,000 upgrade to the GRN will take place, many more sites to look for and ID! (i'm sure BigFella's eyes are spinning like a 5 Dragons Poker Machine at the moment) and thanks to him for his efforts into putting the data we enter here into the various threads as well as the Google files.

We will see the many of the users on the Motorola Zeon Digital network currently migrating to other networks, Orion or Vertel etc over the next 12-18 months as that network is wound up.

The OrionMax (Tier 3) network now has majority of its sites sitting along side existing OrionNetwork(Con+) infrastructure and that will slowly have users migrating across.

New radios on the market from Whistler in the next 12 months hopefully, Uniden have put their SDS100 onto the market and many users are happy with its performance.

Starting to see some new talkgroups on the GRN, however many are Encrypted Users, some are also clear. Happy Hunting there and report back with what you find.

Alot of agencies on the GRN are starting to swap out their old XTS series radios with either Motorola APX series and Tait TP/TM series radios, as you have noticed and read in various forums the Ambulance Service of NSW have and are currently still being upgraded. RMS also have a mixture of new radios, and the RFS are installing APX8000 series radios into many of their new vehicles for GPS/AVL purposes.

The SDR scene is moving nicely, plenty of software and addons out there to cover your needs. The ability to monitor TETRA with a simple SDRSharp Plugin has been impressive, DSD and DSD+ Fastlane have seen some upgrades over the past few months. Lots of new software for amateur users especially in relation to the new digital modes taking over.

Again, thanks to all that have contributed. We wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas - and thinking of those doing it tough health wise at the moment, but still find the time to enjoy the hobby and contribute also.

Merry Christmas to all.

It seems to me that after a fair few years of the hobby declining, it is starting to pick up again. The introduction by local manufacturers of DMR and NXDN capable scanners may be one reason, or it could just be that people are finally realising there is more out there to listen to than the police.

And all the best to everyone for the New Year as well.

Merry Christmas to everyone and thanks for the contributions.
I have just installed UniTrunker again so will be able to keep an eye on the local GRN towers
The local Surf clubs will no doubt be busier so that could be interesting over the next few months. Apparently they have a couple of drones this year.
Hopefully next year I will have more time to keep an eye on scanner related things.
