Post by Chrisco » Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:49 pm

in the next coming week i have a few days off I have planed a few places to scan, near the airport. I was thinking north or south head where else would be a good place to scan?

There is a lookout off Blaxland Rd at Denistone (about 300 or 400 fee elevation) that overlooks a park with the railway below in the distance
That gives you excellent listening for a fair part of Sydney and the Southern Highlands
Another suggestion: The rooftop carpark at your local regional shopping centre eg Rhodes or Burwood Westfield

PS I think Chatswood would be yours

West Head (opposite and west of Palm Beach) in the Waratah National Park is another good spot if you want to scan the Upper Northern Beaches and into the Central Coast, especially Woy Woy, Gosford etc. Not sure about park fees for cars. Long time since I went there (maybe 7-8 years ago)

Howdy
If you make it to newcastle we can catch up :)
But in Newcastle sold gold spots, The old caves beach lookout, for good southern coverage and marine.
Williamtown airport has a viewing deck at fighter world and you can park under the runway on the main rd.
Braye park(waratah) is good spot for the city and north not far from the hospital, and good views
Bar beach carpark also good for south, Horseshoe beach carpark or stockton foreshore for harbour monitoring, plenty of action
you can check what times the ships are due in and out. email direct and ill tell you how.
I always pick locations NOT near transmitters :)

Cheers

I managed to get up the the highest part of westfiled chatswood carpark.I could pick up the vertel 490mhz much more clealy that at home. I couldn't get Star city trunking site. CC (close call)the building works going on at chatswong. I was planing to go into town(syd city)sydney ferries and sydney tower. Rain and other jobs stop that idea.

The other week went up to mc masters beach none or very little scanning there. more drinking beer and JD/JW and cokes w/end. I have a offer to go up to Forster :D (mid north coast) at the end of thre month. Holpefully wont need to drive up so I can scan on the way up. 8-)

At Forster you can hear Coffs Harbour transmissions (but not Port Macquarie due to North Brother mountain blocking it)
