Railcruising in NZ

Post by freqwaves » Thu Dec 03, 2015 8:54 pm

I just came back from the north Island of NZ & went Railcruising in Rotorua.
They have used a disused part of railway line between Mamaku station & Tarukenga station. You get to ride in your own buggy down the railway track, the only control you have is the brake as each buggy is computer controlled & GPS tracked. For the radio enthusiast each buggy has a low band VHF radio for contact back to control if you breakdown along the way. They get the driver to do a radio check before setting off so you know how to use the mic. It looks like a simplex operation as its a flat downhill run to the next station 10km away.
They are also looking at expanding the operation in another year to the next station & designing some faster cars that do around 50 to 60km/h
For more info go to their website at: www.railcruising.com
PM me if you would like to see more pics.

Regards, John.
