Re: What's happening with Waverley Tower?
There's very few services still running on it. I was lucky enough to go inside for a visit and all the microwave gear was turned off years ago. I know theres an active fleetcoms site and a MDRN site there, but not much else. Heck, it's practically a museum in there - for example there was a SORN site still in the racks! The tower will stay at this new height and have any decommissioned gear removed.
Cheers,
Matt

I'd say the Bondi Junction site has taken a lot of services from it. And yes, there are some folded dipole arrays still in place. There were vans and a banner for a comms company on site today. RCL Communications I thinkcitabria wrote:There's very few services still running on it. I was lucky enough to go inside for a visit and all the microwave gear was turned off years ago. I can see this tower from work. Must say it looks a bit out of place surrounded by houses. I can still receive the MPT1327 VHF trunk network supported by Telstra from this site.
Maybe it will eventually get removed like they did with the one on the roof at the Telstra exchange at Redfern.
John.

Re: What's happening with Waverley Tower?
There's an MDRN site there too - it's just licensed incorrectly to another site up the road (which incidentally I also visited once - I spent a good 30 minutes searching for the secret MDRN site before realising it was up the road!)
Those 150 licences probably only need 10 antennas or so - such a massive tower is probably not justified. In fact the only reason it was built so massive in the first place was because of the huge wind loading of that massive microwave dishes (which are now gone of course...) Those trunking systems for example are using combiners etc..

Re: What's happening with Waverley Tower?
Just a 30m tower height reduction.
90 tonne of steel removed.
Unused antennas were removed, platform removed etc.
Actually at site today with some base station switching as the riggers change some antennas around.
If only I could remember how to post a pic!

It's still an eyesore no matter how much they cut it down. I'm surprised the silvertails haven't had it removed completely.system_tech wrote:Just a 30m tower height reduction.
